On August 3, 1999, Spectrum Zone, the predecessor of Computer Emuzone [CEZ], was launched. So, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary, and it is worth saying so, even though we have not been able to prepare anything special. We will continue here as long as we can. Thanks for everything!

A few days ago the new remake of one of the legendary games from the "Golden Age" of Spanish soft was released, Conquestador (Las Tres Luces de Glaurung). This is not the first attempt, as M.A. Soft published its own remake a whopping 16 years ago, but it is the first time that owners of an Android phone will be able to play this adventure without the need to use an emulator.

We have had the pleasure of helping in the development (with the occasional irrelevant suggestions) and the promotion of the project (in an equally humble way, retweeting the advances that the author was publishing), to whom we owe a thank you for mentioning us in the credits (the reward is disproportionately greater than the effort we have put in, all credit to CheapeeSoft).

It has been a fairly rapid development; It's only been a few weeks since we learned about it until the final version came out, which has even meant that I didn't have time to play the beta before the finished game (it's also true that I've forgotten the meaning of the expression "free time").

The author has tried to preserve the essence of the original (based on the Amstrad CPC version), which has resulted in the preservation of certain colors, such as the bright yellow of the castle walls. I would have chosen to take advantage of the current unlimited palettes, but since it was an intentional creative decision, we have to value it as it was implemented.

Along with the updated pixel art graphics, others appear in high resolution, such as the menus or the markers, a mixture that I would have tried to avoid for the sake of "pixeartian purism" in which I settled many years ago.

In the remake of M.A. Soft, with has hand-drawn graphics, we missed the pixel art (although the high resolution would have been worth it too). Here what is missing is the global graphic coherence, as I said, although it is true that the parts in which one or the other graphics are used are perfectly separated.

The use of certain graphic effects, which look "too modern", also contributes to this perception of lack of unity.

On the other hand, the option to change some colors of our main character's clothing has been added, although these options also go through several flat colors. But it is a customization that is appreciated.

The music, for its part, is pleasant, preserving the original magic, fulfilling its function in an essential area for the game to work.

Thank you, for your part, for the preparation of a cover, in three languages as well. It's not something that always happens when a remake is made (many will think that the original already exists), but it is a touch that helps complete the total package of the game. It is somewhat schematic (it reminds us of the original from Mad Mix 2), but it is a favorable point as we said.

The introduction of a map, in the purest graphic style of the cover of Spirits, is another success of this new version, which will make it more feasible to complete our mission.

Conquestador is one of the quintessential Spanish classics. We all know that what makes a program classic is, many times, the memory that people have of it, above its technical quality. I think this is the case with this Erbe Software game, which has the score it has in CEZ more for those bucolic memories than for its real quality, like so many others. And transferring those sensations to the present time is really complicated. CheapeeSoft has created a game that can be improved in my opinion, as was the case with the other remake we commented, but that manages to evoke those emotions that the original by Javier Cano, José Manuel Muñoz and Emilio Martínez provoked in us.
