On August 3, 1999, Spectrum Zone, the predecessor of Computer Emuzone [CEZ], was launched. So, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary, and it is worth saying so, even though we have not been able to prepare anything special. We will continue here as long as we can. Thanks for everything!

Who Dares Wins was published in 1985 by Alligata, exclusively for C64. A short time later, Capcom filed a lawsuit for the great resemblance of the game with the mythical 'Commando', which caused him to be removed from the stores. A short time later, they returned to the load with 'Who Dares Wins II', which instead of being a second part to use, was the same game refurbished, to eliminate the most obvious similarities with the classic of the Japanese company. This time it was published for all popular systems of the time, including the MSX. The C64 version retained the scroll of the first part, but it was the only one.

In 2016, Retroforce released a version for MSX 2 that has just been released for free. As a result of what we told you before, it is a remake of the second part with the name of the first.

The first thing that attracts attention is that, if you load the cartridge in a normal MSX (or, at least, in MSX mode in the emulator), the original version of Alligata will be executed. Good way to see the differences between them.

Moving on to the game, the face wash is evident. The graphics are full of color, and you can choose between three different palettes in the options menu. The originals were simple and functional, and those of the remake are much more detailed, without losing the link with those.

In the sound aspect they have not limited themselves to maintaining the music and sounds of the original but, in addition to adding music during the game, they have incorporated SCC sound (the famous Konami chip that improved this section in some cartridges), which can be combined to taste with the PSG, mixing it at different levels or using only one of the two.

The development of the game also has some novelties that add value to this version, such two players option, three difficulty levels or the fact that the corpses of the soldiers remain lying on the ground ... And not only those of the enemies, but our own when we lose a life . A somewhat more realistic representation of war.

The fun of the original not only remains intact in this version, but is even reinforced. A great job.
