On August 3, 1999, Spectrum Zone, the predecessor of Computer Emuzone [CEZ], was launched. So, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary, and it is worth saying so, even though we have not been able to prepare anything special. We will continue here as long as we can. Thanks for everything!

In my opinion I dare to say that this was one of the best games that Microhobby Cassette published at the time and, since I appreciate it very much, I will try to be as objective as possible.

I would say that the game has two great virtues. One, that the author managed to give it a great setting with very few resources; We must emphasize the fact that we are dealing with a program made entirely in BASIC, and a handful of characters do not go far. Also a detail, which at first glance can escape, is that the game area is very wide, with a fair and necessary marker that gives more depth and immersion to the action. And two, that although at first glance it seems like a typical platform game, it's actually more of a game of skill.

It is then about collecting the necessary keys and reaching the star that will return you to your time because you have fallen into a wormhole (your tailor was chasing you and you fell. I never understood this). To do this we can move from left to right and jump. But what makes the game funny is that everything is going to be based on the power that we give to the jump, the more we keep the key pressed, the higher it will go, but everything takes place in a duel between the program and you to survive, since that he is determined that the crocodiles devour us and you are not going to let him. The keyboard response is good as long as there is no other moving character on the screen, but when this happens everything slows down too much and makes one think that some routine in the program could have been improved.

One of the curious details is that we can push objects to avoid danger. Some large trunks or sofas will serve as support so as not to stick the rows of spikes or free areas where disappearing platforms leave us the impossible path.

The sound, in its simple program context, is pretty good. It has its effects for everything (even for the crocodile bites) and its music, both for the menus and to decorate the deaths, are appreciated (a very curious detail is that if we do nothing for a while, a kind of UFO appears that eliminates us).

The graphics are very simple but endearing and well proportioned. If we are inside or outside the castle we will see them shaded or not and the rooms are full of real estate details.

In short, if you are one of those who liked those home programs that people made non-profit, didactically and with their hearts, Tickland is a highly recommended option.
