Mundial de Fútbol - Italia '90

computer emuzone review

Though it was almost unnoticed in the European market, World Trophy Soccer was one of the best games created by Novotrade for 16-bit (which is not so much). I remember it was pretty entertaining in Amiga, and if it was loaded with mega RAM, it had better sound effects. Why are you talking about this game? Very simple... A year later, Virgin Mastertronic took the game and changed the title, becoming World Cup Italia 90, changing a few little things in the existing versions (Atari ST, Amiga and C64), and hiring mercenaries as Probe or Animagic to make the conversions for other computers.
For 8-bit versions, the truth is Probe did a decent job, creating a football game without too many pretensions, but at least fun. They converted 16-bit graphics quite well and, for example in Amstrad CPC, the did more than a presentable game, with a remarkable game speed.

In MSX, Italia 90 is like a faded copy of Spectrum. Fewer colors, speed and gameplay than the other versions, leave us a pretty mediocre footballing arcade, easy forgettable.

In an incredible decision, they suprimed the different colors of the teams, so both of them are black, making impossible to distinguish which players "go with us," and making easy than we pass the ball to the opposite.

And the sound? There is almost no sound in 8-bit versions. It seems they tested the Amiga one without enhanced RAM, and thought it hasn't sound too...
