The world of the conversational adventures has not been very dealed with in the remakes pages which does not mean that magnificent adaptations of the old adventures exist.
The world of the conversational adventures has not been very dealed with in the remakes pages which does not mean that magnificent adaptations of the old adventures exist.
Why to do remake of a conversational adventure if it is possible to be played with an emulator? The reason is the same one that for a game of another type: the improvement of computer science means. In the case of the adventures the greater problem was the little memory of the equipment of the time that forced to trim history, the dialogues, the images and until the vocabulary.
Nowadays the world of the adventure has advanced enormously. Actual parsers recognizes a writing style much less robotized, and is very flexible at the time understanding actions. In addition the languages that are used are much more powerful, some even allowing to make really difficult things.
The new languages are no longer specific for a platform but they compile for "virtual machines" of which it is possible to obtain versions for almost any system (style Java or Flash). So the adventures are totally multisystem (there are versions of the virtual machines even for Paml and Pocket PC).
In Spanish the referring page of everything about text adventures is
CAAD, the old adventures club created from famous Aventuras AD (the creative company of Don Quixote, the Original Adventure...). The panorama of adventures in Spanish is animated enough and exist three alternative languages for the developers in our language:
InformATE (adaptation to the Spanish of the Inform language),
Superglús (version outpost of old system PAWS for adventures creation) and
Visual Sintac (the only one that allows to make part of the creation work of graphical form and later to complete with a language like Visual BASIC).
In the CAAD page you will be able to find tutorial and documentation of all the systems and to their developers in the forum or mailing list.
Welll, all of this introduction is due to a new adventures remakes conquest, being developed in CAAD ([link]http://caad.mine.nu/retrocomp/index.htm[/link]). Seven adventures have appeared of which four are remakes of other adventures of the same author and three are new versions of adventures of old companies. These last ones are:
[list][*]Drácula, the first night: based on the first part of the famous game of the English company CRL that was published in 1986. The old readers of Microhobbys and its section of "the old archivist" can remember it.
[*]Remakorp: based on Megacorp, the space game that Dinamic published in 1987.
[*]ReminiscenciaRol: second part of the adventure Amnesia Rol, published freely by Calendomyunt Software in 1995.[/list]
The term to vote finishes in the end of month and is necessary to have played all to do it. Still you are on time. If you have not played any adventure previously I advise you that you unload the 'Player kit for Inform for Windows ([link]http://caad.mine.nu/modulos.php?modulo=descarga&id=1094[/link]) that installs the versions of the virtual machines (Z and Glux) and later in the CAAD downloads section it is a section of adventures for nascent (I recommend to begin with
'The boring book). If you use Linux or another system you can find versions of Z and Glux in the apps downloads section.
If you have any doubt, use this page or the CAAD one.
