On August 3, 1999, Spectrum Zone, the predecessor of Computer Emuzone [CEZ], was launched. So, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary, and it is worth saying so, even though we have not been able to prepare anything special. We will continue here as long as we can. Thanks for everything!

Boxeo is a pugilistic program of spartan invoice, that shows us the action from a zenithal perspective (which brings to mind the classic Boxing of the old Atari 2600) and that boasts an amazing simplicity in each and every one of the aspects That composes.

In fact boxers can only perform four types of moves, three attack (left hook, right hook and low hit) and one defensive (blocking). In addition, the only combat parameter that we can alter from the menu is the number of assaults (not their duration).

TWO BETTER THAN ONE

Our goal in the game is to win a boxing match, and I say well, one.

The game does not offer any kind of championship, nor does it give us the possibility to adjust the level of difficulty, presenting, to make matters worse, a single adversary under the control of the CPU.

This means that as soon as we play a couple of games and take control of our boxer, we do not take too long to finish it.

Fortunately, the program includes a mode that allows you to face two human players, and it is here that Boxeo shows all its reasonable potential for fun.

TECHNICAL ASPECT

GRAPHICS: Both the design and the definition of boxers and markers, within their simplicity, are convincing. On the other hand, the game area transmits a certain feeling of emptiness and the sprites overlap at certain times.

ANIMATION: Fairly scarce. Our boxers lack animated frames when they move on the canvas (it seems that the boxers, rather than walking, float). The blows are more achieved (although there are few). The program presents some extra animation related to the bell.

SOUND: Amen of the jumble of beeps, as a melody, from the main menu, the program presents a sound sound level. The effects of the blows are simple, but both the sounds of the bell and those of the countdown, are composed of digitizations of remarkable invoice (to be reproduced by the internal speaker). More debatable is the digitalization used to capture the pain of boxers when receiving a blow (sound like a duck).

PLAYING: The game itself is very easy to control (the shortage of possible moves helps a lot). The bad thing is that, as we have already dropped, if we do not have anyone against him to play, Boxeo loses interest soon, due to the only opponent against him that we can fight. On the other hand, if we are able to use the two-player mode, Boxing is transformed into a title that offers an acceptable ration of old fun.

In short, Boxing is a game more arcade than simulator, tremendously simple in its approaches (both technical and playable), easy to play, moderately fun in its modality for two players and, probably, not suitable for under 30;).
